From scan to 3D print
3D scanning
3D printing always starts with the 3D design. In this case, the object, Rico, already existed. And so it was a matter of digitizing it, in 3D. This is done using a 3D scanner. Thanks to this technique, it is possible to print existing objects in great detail. The scanning process itself takes only a few seconds, but then the model must be carefully post-processed to make the details of his clothing and face clearly visible.
3D Printing
After the digital 3D model has been converted into a nice printable model and meets the set requirements, we can start preparing it for printing. At 3D Next Level, we have several 3D printers, each with their own capabilities and limitations. With our special high-resolution 3D printer, which shapes the figurine layer by layer, a lifelike 3D image is created. After printing, the figurines are reinforced on the inside.
Finishing
Finally, the final step of the process, finishing the action figure. First a tight primer is applied, then a color is sprayed on top and airbrush applied.
So what is an airbrush? An airbrush is a spray gun. Simply put, an airbrush allows you to mix paint and air. You press a button and through air you spread paint on a model or miniature. With this technique, you can easily, quickly and precisely apply paint to large areas. You can also use airbrushing to create effects that make a model life-like. For example, the airbrusher applied special patterns to the coat that make it look very real. It also looks at where shadows are applied so that folds in his clothing become even more visible. The shadows and small details in his face and also gave Rico his characteristic expression on his face. This Rico Verhoeven came to life with the help of the airbrush.
